Biography

My name is Jaclyn Burke and I am twenty three years old. I have been riding horses since I was five years old and have grown to love horses and develop a passion for eventing. I have lots of experience competing in many different disciplines from the CCI** International level of eventing to showing on the A circuit and running barrels. I grew up outside of Chicago, IL and spent a lovely 16 years of my life learning how to ride in the windy city. After I graduated high school, I moved to Columbia, South Carolina where I attended the University of South Carolina and received a degree in Finance and Marketing with a minor in Journalism.  While I was in College, I started Burke Equestrian teaching local riders in the area in a variety of disciplines as well as taking in training horses and also started selling horses for myself and other clients.

After spending the summer  working in Charlottesville, VA working for Dr. Jeff Beshear at  Old Dominion Equine. I have decided to stay and pursue my career in horses based between Charlottesville, VA and Columbia, SC. My passion is training young or “problem” horses. I worked under Matt Trynoski of Sugar Grove, IL for 4 years helping him as an assistant trainer and spent a summer selling quarter horses for a quarter horse breeder. Durning College I also spent two spring seasons galloping race horses which I feel has give me a very inside look at the young thoroughbred mind. I have been able to spend a significant amount of time training  with top professionals including John Holling, Bonnie Mosser, Craig Thompson, Ralph Hill,  and Emily Beshear to further my equestrian knowledge. I have also had the opportunity to clinician with some of the best riders in the sport including Lucinda Green, Jim Graham, Phillip Dutton, Becky Holder, Missy Ransehousen, Allison Springer, Jan Bynn, Will Faudree, and many others.

My Horses

When I was ten years old, I got my first pony, Apache, as a present from my parents.  I was s showing hunter’s and after buying Apache I joined St. James Pony Club. After spending some time in pony club, I realized that I had a growing pain to try cross country. At thirteen, my parents bought my first preliminary level partner, Seventh Step, and I spent four years eventing “Griffin” through the one star level and my C-2 in Pony Club. Griffin had a heart of gold and was a great horse to learn on gave me a ton of confidence. After qualifying for YR’s in 2006, Griffin had to be put down after a pasture accident. In June of 2006, I purchased Chance of Flurries, a coming five year old thoroughbred off the race track. Since then, “Murphy” has competed very successfully through the two star and intermediate levels and has done more for me then I could have ever asked. Since then, I have been given the opportunity to ride and compete many clients horses in eventing, dressage, and hunter/jumpers. I have to thank each and every wonderful horse I have owned and ridden because they have helped to shape me into the rider I am today.
